Review: Jamaican vocal legend Ken Boothe teams up with British bassist Jah Wobble for a rich, dub-inflected reimagining of soul and pop classics. This cross-generational collaboration brings warmth and grit to well-worn favourites, with Boothe's honeyed voice rising gracefully above Wobble's cavernous basslines and spiralling effects. Their version of 'Everything I Own' is mournful yet punchy, while 'Ain't No Sunshine' is transformed into a meditative, slow-swaying lament. Elsewhere, 'Just My Imagination' floats through layers of reverb and echo, nodding to the roots of dub while leaning into lush, widescreen textures. Wobble's history in post-punk and experimental music adds weight to the arrangements without ever crowding Boothe's vocal clarity. The result is a tender and atmospheric project that blurs genre boundaries, reconnecting classic songwriting with sound system sonics. A project that feels reverent yet exploratory, it's a testament to both artists' ability to evolve while staying true to their foundations.

Review: Jah Wobble returns with a new dub LP on Dimple Discs - and it's a proper low-end masterclass. A completely solo outing, written, played and arranged by the legendary East London bassist, it's a deep, heady listen steeped in the influence of Lee Perry and King Tubby - all heavy atmospheres, tactile delays and bottomless bass. It's a new release from one of dub's great outliers, with every frequency tuned for sound system clarity. 'Dub In The East' sets the tone with hypnotic simplicity, while 'Tyson Dub Remix' and 'Existential Dub' expand the palette with warped melodica, submerged vocals and Wobble's unmistakable bass lines pulsing through the mix. 'Losing All Sense Of Balance Dub' and 'Tragic Slavic Dub' are deeper still i lurching, meditative and slyly melodic. With sleeve art by Wobble himself and expert mastering by Anthony Chapman, this is a dub LP in the classic mould, but fully in Wobble's voice. A late-period gem from a true innovator i warm, weird and built for full-volume immersion.

Review: Jah Wobble has taken his musicianship far and wide since he first rose to prominence in the glory days of post-punk and new wave. He's more readily associated with dub and international musical fusions than rock, but on this new album for Cleopatra he's returned his focus to the spiky energy bursts of his earlier work with Public Image Ltd. Produced with Jon Klein of Siouxsie & The Banshees, A Brief History Of Now covers a lot of ground and revels in allowing all kinds of influences in without losing focus. This is a set of kick ass rock tunes first and foremost, but there's space for subtlety and humour to make sure you know it's Wobble at the controls.
